ANSWER SCHEME A. ESSAY

1.1 Stereotyping (1M)
1.2 Student explains how what Brock said showed that he is affected by a barrier (i.e. hinders from thinking about something else)
E.g. Brock has judged a Pokemon Go! player using his judgement about Pokemon Go! players in general without considering that that player could be different from the group. (1M)
Note: Simply explaining the meaning of the barrier does not answer the question fully.

2.1 Self-interested thinking (1M)
2.2 Student explains how what Misty said showed that she is affected by a barrier (i.e. hinders from thinking about something else)
E.g. Misty defended the position of the players because she is one of them without considering the possible truth in the opinion against Pokemon Go! players. (1M)
Note: Simply explaining the meaning of the barrier does not answer the question fully.

3.1 Begging the question (1M)
3.2 Student explains how Brock’s premise is irrelevant to support his conclusion in the form of the said fallacy.
E.g. Brock tried to prove that Pokemon Go! is dangerous to non-players by repeating it with different wordings as “unsafe situation” which is irrelevant. (1M)
Note: Simply defining the fallacy does not answer the question fully.

4.1 Red Herring (1M)
4.2 Student explains how Misty’s premise is irrelevant to support her conclusion in the form of the said fallacy.
E.g. Misty tried to prove that Pokemon Go! is not dangerous by raising an irrelevant issue of it being exciting, in which she thinks has rejected what Brock said. (1M)
Note: Simply defining the fallacy does not answer the question fully.
